Tehran: During his official visit to Iran, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday, expressing deep gratitude for Iran’s support during the recent military escalation with India.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account following the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif stated that he and Ayatollah Khamenei discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. He thanked the Iranian leadership for their mediation efforts and for voicing concern for Pakistan during the recent South Asian crisis.
"Pakistan values Iran’s role in the Muslim Ummah and looks forward to working together to promote shared goals of peace, development, and harmony," said the Pakistani premier.
Ayatollah Khamenei also posted a message on X, highlighting the potential for extensive cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. He expressed hope that bilateral ties in economic, political, and cultural fields would continue to strengthen.
Earlier, on May 26, Prime Minister Sharif stated that Pakistan and Iran had agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including trade and investment. He further reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to engage in dialogue to resolve regional disputes — including the Kashmir issue, water sharing, and counter-terrorism — emphasizing support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
The high-level visit is part of the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's four state visit to Turkey , Iran , Tajikistan and Azerbaijan which will continue till 30th May.
A day before, Shahbaz Sharif visited turkey and signed multiple agreements with Turkish President.
